Tight Aggressive Players (TAGs)

A tight-aggressive player has a tight continuing range. He is conscious of the playing styles of his opponents and he will try to exploit their weaknesses. If they sense that their opponent is weak, they will put in a raise and try to take the pot from him.

TAGs can be identified by raising often. They don’t play too many pots. However, when they are in a pot, they will take advantage of bluffing opportunities.

Loose Aggressive Players (LAGs)

The loose-aggressive players use all the same strategies that a TAG uses. However, their continuing range usually comprises a broader range of hands. They often raise and will bluff more than TAGs. In addition, compared to TAGs, LAGs are more willing to risk larger amounts of money to pull off a bluff.

This player-type will come across as the table bully. The tighter players will often be afraid to get involved in a pot with a LAG. Therefore, if you are in a pot with a LAG and a NIT, it is likely that the NIT will have a strong hand.

A NIT will usually be afraid of a LAG. Therefore, when a NIT does continue with a hand against a LAG, he will usually have a strong hand.
